Carlsbad, California is a seaside resort town located in the northern part of San Diego County. The first settlers came to the
area in the late 1800’s because of the agricultural opportunities offered by an abundance of fresh water. The name Carlsbad was
given to the city because the water was chemically similar to the water in the European city Carlsbad, Czech Republic. The city
was officially incorporated in 1952 in order to avoid being annexed by Oceanside.
Today, over 95,000 residents call Carlsbad home. Because the city is known nationally as having a high-quality of life and for its resort-style atmosphere, the average price of a
home in Carlsbad is over one million dollars. Carlsbad is also known as an environmentally friendly community because it has
passed some of California’s strictest ordinances protecting local habitats. The ordinances have kept the population density
in Carlsbad low, promoting higher property values.
Carlsbad has several master planned communities as well as a regional
airport, Palomar Airport. There are also several attractions that are popular with both the local residents and visitors including
the beach, The Flower Fields, and Legoland. The La Costa Resort and Spa is known world-wide because it hosts the WGC-Accenture
Match Play Championship every February. The tournament attracts famous golfers from both the PGA Tour and the European
Tour.
