Scripps Ranch is a small town that is located directly east of the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (Formerly known as Miramar Naval
Air Station famous for the movie Top Gun). The town was named after E.W. Scripps, a famous newspaper man who purchased the land
to build his home, Miramar. In the late 1970’s, the land was sold to developers in order to build an upper scale community with
ranch style houses. Many of the homes in Scripps Ranch are well over a million dollars.
In the heart of Scripps Ranch liesMiramar Lake, which features several activities for the outdoor enthusiasts. If you are into walking or jogging, the lake has
3.5 mile paved trail and there are several park areas where patrons can have barbeques or parties. Recently, in 2003, the community
was the victim of a devastating brush fire which destroyed over 300 homes. Since then, the community has pulled together to
develop The Project Phoenix, which was initially designed to provide support for residents devastated by the fire, but now is primarily
dedicated to being proactive in preventing another such disaster from occurring.
Scripps Ranch is known for its 4th of
July Parade, where several community organizations and churches march in a style reminiscent of small-town America. The event
includes a concert in the park and a 10k Fun Run.
Miramar Lake is a realtively small lake that offers local residents a day out in the open. There are several picnic areas and
a paved trail for walkers, joggers, and roller-bladers.
