San Marcos, California is emerging as a strong business center which has both a diverse and affluent population.  It is the fastest growing city in North San Diego County and is currently home to over 70,000 residents.  San Marcos is noted for its excellent transportation network, low taxes, fast growth, and master planned communities.  It is also home to a regional airport, Palomar Airport. 

 

One of the main attractions of San Marcos is Old California Restaurant Row which features several restaurants and pubs. It is noted for its wide variety of ethnic cuisine (Asian, Latin American, European, Middle Eastern, and Pacific Islander) which is reflective of the community’s cultural diversity.  San Marcos attracts the younger crowd because of its booming high-tech economy and is also home to a large Frys Electronics stores that has an Atlantis theme.  Many educational opportunities are available in San Marcos because of its three campuses of higher learning highlighted by Cal State San Marcos.  The city’s centralized location and convenient highway system provide its residents easy access to the many outdoor activities that are available in neighboring areas, including beaches.  San Marcos is bordered to the north by Carlsbad and to the south by Escondido.

The Lake San Marcos Country Club lies on over 250 acres of land and features tennis courts, two golf courses, and two pools.  The lavish landscaping and ideal weather conditions offer members year-round activities in a stress-free environment.
California State University, San Marcos was founded in 1989 and has attracted a younger crowd to the San Marcos community.  The university has three colleges: Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, and Education.  There are approximately 8,500 students currently enrolled at the school.
Old California Restaurant Row is one of the most popular spots in North San Diego County.  It features some of the area's best places to dine as well as several specialty shops, bars, and an Edwards Cinema.
